Outdoor Practice

DSC's Junior Rifle Team is in full swing this year. With a number of "veteran" shooters and a sprinkling of new blood, DSC is on it's way back to fielding a competitive team again. Team Coaches Rich Franke and Don Szlezyngier have been working with all the members, helping them with the basics and honing their skills.

At weekly practices, team members shoot in all four positions (prone, sitting, kneeling and offhand (standing)) to obtain their NRA Smallbore ratings. Team members compete in monthly "postal" matches for Junior Rifle Teams from all over Michigan hosted by the Michigan Rifle and Pistol Association (MRPA), as well as "shoulder to shoulder" matches both at home and away.

For the Third straight year, DSC's Junior Rifle shooters are also participating in the National VFW Postal Match series. This year, our shooters placed 1st overall Nationally and last year, our shooters placed 5th overall Nationally.

Junior Rifle matches are sanctioned by the National Rifle Association and the Michigan Rifle and Pistol Association.

The DSC Junior Rifle Team is always on the lookout for talented new shooters; If you are between the ages of 10 and 17, and interested in finding out more, please stop by the DSC range building on most Friday nights between 6:00pm and 7:30pm. You can watch the team shooters during their practice and talk to the team coaches. All Team members are required to be members of DSC and to complete a 7 night NRA course on rifle shooting and safety taught by John Butler. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to compete as part of the DSC team. Please contact Don Szlezyngier (586) 263-6860 for more information.
